Kia sedona 2017

2017 Kia Sedona

NiceCarsInfo Team February 3, 2016

In the recent past, Kia has been rapidly casting its wings far and wide competing in almost all market segments. The Sedona is one of their most popular vehicles. Having undergone a facelift back in 2014, we don’t expect major changes on the upcoming model.

The god thing about the Sedona is its exterior profile which makes it look more of a crossover than a minivan. The vehicle is suitable for large families offering comfortable rides even during long journeys. It also has impressive power output and fuel efficiency.

2017 Kia Sedona Exterior

The 2017 Kia Sedona exterior profile will be refreshed to look more modern. The new changes are mild just meant to improve its profile.

At the front, the vehicle features a redesigned, stylish mesh grille which sports the automaker’s logo at the center. The grille makes the front fascia of the Sedona look more aggressive. It is flanked by a pair of swept back LED powered headlights. The front bumper is larger and adds to the front fascia’s aggressiveness. The bumper is integrated with fog lights and larger air intakes on its lower end.

At the rear, the vehicle features more elegant LED taillights while the rear bumper gets a slight tweaking. The minivan also features a stabilizer bar and multi-link features on its rear suspensions which enhance its driving dynamics. The vehicle rides on 17-inch alloy wheels but buyers can also opt for 18-inch or 19-inch wheels. The vehicle is offered in five trim levels which are the base L, mid trims LX, EX and SX and the top SX-Limited.

2017 Kia Sedona Interior

The cabin of the Sedona is very spacious and comfortably accommodates 8 passengers. The cabin looks stylish and its three rows of seats are well designed to offer plenty of legroom and hip-room. The space left is still large enough to accommodate plenty of cargo as well as pets.

The cabin is upholstered in a quality cloth as standard but high trims are upholstered in leather. Tech-wise, the vehicle is also adequately equipped. It comes with a modern infotainment system with a wide touch-screen. The system integrates Google maps and android apps.  The vehicle also features Bluetooth connectivity, 4 or 5 USB ports, CD/MP3 players, cruise control, automatic climate control and a 7-speaker audio system.

Other features include power windows, heated front seats, a rearview camera and parking sensors. To ease access to the thirds row, you can take the option for sliding second row seats which also solves leg space problems experienced previously. The SX-Limited which is the top trim adds airline-style lounges on the second row as well as a 60/40 split-folding /flat functionality on the third row seats. For safety, the Sedona is equipped with enhanced airbags and a rear view camera among others.

Engine Specs and Performance

Under the 2017 Kia Sedona hood, you will find a single drive-train. The engine is a 3.3 L, V-6 which is capable of producing 280 hp and 250 lb-ft of torque. The engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission system that channels power to all wheels.

In terms of fuel economy, the engine will deliver 19 mpg in city and 25 mpg on highway for L, LX and EX trims. The higher trims SX and SX-Limited will deliver 18mpg in city and 24 mpg on highway drives.

These numbers are impressive and will place the Sedona among the top in its class in terms of fuel economy. Information on its acceleration and top speed is yet to be released by the automaker as of this writing. Make sure to come back for more details.

Price and release date

According to reliable sources, the 2017 Kia Sedona will be availed to dealerships in the third quarter of 2016. As for the price, the base trim will have a starting price of around $ 27,000 while the top trim could cost as much as $ 42,000.

Ultimate Minivan from KIA Is 2017 Sedona

Sedona was a Hyundai-KIA answer to popular family minivans like Sienna and Town&Country, and just like them, it is the great option for a big family for travel longer distances without any compromises. Let’s find out what 2017 KIA Sedona could offer.

Trim Levels – From L to SX Luxury

Actually, 2017 Sedona comes in a wide variety of configurations. However, it seems to be no changes in comparison with 2016 model year car, the set of trims remain the same. The engine is common to all cars, which is 3.3L V6. All trims also equipped with a wide variety of safety systems, such as 8 airbags, stability control, traction control, brake force distribution, hill start assist, tire pressure monitor, safety door locks. VSM (vehicle stability management) system available only in two latest trims.

Sedona L

Sedona L is the entry-level trim, which provide a very narrow list of equipment. The car doesn’t even have power mirrors. However, it already has almost everything you need from a family minivan.

In terms of exterior, L trim could be offered only in a limited set of colors – White, Silver and Black. The car comes with rear heated glass, 17-inch alloy wheels and a rear spoiler. Interior wise, it is a proper family vehicle – 4-speaker 5-inch multimedia with touchscreen, Bluetooth and USB connectivity; 12V power outlets (2 in front, 1 in cargo area); rear view camera; keyless entry; power windows; tilt and telescopic steering column; two bottle holders and 12 cup holders. The interior trimming is only fabric for this configuration, only dark color available.

Sedona L started at $26,800 MSRP

Sedona LX

LX goes not so far away from the standard L, adding power folding mirrors (heating is an option), standard privacy glass, power sliding doors and optional roof rails. The new interior features include optional 7-inch infotainment with Apple Car support, Satellite radio and UVO eServices; two extra tweeters mounted on the dash. Most of LX equipment comes only with extra charge – such as leather trimming, heated seats, push-button start, parking assist, cruise control and a wide range of auxilary safety system like lane departure warning, rear cross traffic alert, etc.

Sedona LX started at $28,850 MSRP

Sedona EX

EX trim is right in the middle of configuration hierarchy. You will get heated mirrors and roof rails as standard, as well as height-adjustable power liftgate, inaccessable even as an option for previous trim levels. Sedona EX also comes with fog lights and LED positioning lights. The car comes with 18-inch alloy wheels as a standard. That’s all exterior changes in comparison with LX. As for the interior, EX comes almost with all optional equipent of LX, except most of advanced safety features (optional as well). For things you cannot receive in LX even with extra charge are two USB ports for device charging; Tri-zone automatic climate control; auto-dimming mirror; metal door trimming. Such a necessary options, like heated seats and rear park assist available here without extra charge.

Sedona EX will cost you $33,600 (MSRP without options)

Sedona SX

SX is not bringing a lot to the equipment list, most of toys are available optionally. As a standard for SX, we could mention LED rear lamps, different marker lamps; 8-inch multimedia with navi, 8-speakers with subwoofer, 110V Power outlet; 4-way power adjustable driver’s seat, 8-way power adjustable front passenger seat. What is more important, SX has some premium features, like ventilated front row seats and heated second row of seats.

SX version of Sedona offers from $36,900 MSRP

Sedona SX Luxury

Or simply SXL how it officially named, features all possible equipment available for Sedona, but nevertheless, some of it is also optional. To begin with, let’s see what the most luxurious trim level could offer in terms of interior. SXL Sedona interior features the same multimedia as SX (8-inch display, navi, 8.1 sound with amp), one extra 110V outlet in cargo bay, 360-degree camera view, adaptive cruise control, leather trimming (premium leather is optional), second row with foldable center console, wood trimming for steering wheel (also heated) and doors. Cool two lounge seats for second row are available for order, as well as premium headliners, and dual power sunroof. Exterior wise, luxury Sedona features 18-inch chrome plated wheels, chromed door handles, sound-absorbing glass, bending headlamps.

The most luxurious Sedona SXL price is $41,900 without options.

When Will It Be Available

Kia haven’t released any official date regarding the launch of the new Sedona, but as far as we know, we think it will be toward the late part of 2016.

Release date: already available

We believe that the pricing will remain the same for the existing model, this means the base model should start around $28,000, with the fully loaded version in the region of $40,000.

Good Performed

The new Kia Sedona isn’t something that you’d automatically recognise as a regular minivan; predatory LED headlamps, the ‘Tiger nose’ front grille and large 19” wheels give a different look to the vehicle, maybe part minivan and part crossover. Unlike most of the competition in this particular class, it doesn’t look boring, or ‘just another’ family vehicle – it actually has a bit of style about it.

Also read about the 2018 Chevy Avalanche

Despite being unchanged in size (202.9” long, 78.1” wide and 68.5” tall), the new Sedona seems bigger, especially on the inside. The lines of the instrument panel seem to enhance that effect, and thanks to the soft plastic trimming, the overall effect of luxury and quality is present.

The seats take that a step further; trimmed in soft Nappa leather (the same as the premium sedan, the Quoris), the overall appearance of the interior is one of style, quality and luxury – definitely not your regular minivan.

The new Sedona is the only car equipped with YES Essentials technology, meaning that the interior is built for family life; the interior trim is easily cleaned (and hard to stain), but better than that, Kia says that it prevents the spread of germs and protects against static electricity.

The interior can transform in to a number of configurations; you can have three seats in the second and third row, have retractable footrests and individual armrests, perhaps even turn it in to one giant load carrying space. It must be said though, even without configuring it as a load lugger, there is still plenty of space and compartments for storing your daily life.

User Friendly

The new Sedona has a great UVO entertainment system fitted as standard. It will work with both Siri from Apple and Local Search from Google and along with Kia’s apps in the app store, the functionality of the new Sedona system grows exponentially.

The 2017 Sedona also becomes the first car by Kia that will be equipped with eServices remote control system; allowing the car to monitor the area, movement, time and speed limits.

There will also be a host of other ‘nice to have’ features; USB ports, 115v power outlet, a monitoring system to help with parking and manoeuvring in tight traffic, ‘Smart Welcome’ to illuminate the door handles and mirrors as you approach the vehicle and an intelligent luggage door which opens if the key fob is nearby for more than three seconds.

Safe and Powerful

The new 2017 Sedona is built upon the same platform as the current model, however, a few tweaks means that torsional rigidity is some 36% higher than its nearest competitor. Just over ¾ of the body is made from high strength steel, which means a reduced weight while still being tough and durable. The rear suspension is a multi-link setup and attaches to a sub-frame, even in the base model, the suspension is adaptive.

This means that the Kia Sedona is really safe; 5 stars, which is the highest NHTSA score possible.

The great looks are coupled to a new motor; a 3.3 liter GDI V6. It’s more powerful than the current motor – 280 BHP and 247 lb/ft of torque and runs through a slick 6-speed auto transmission.

2017 Kia Sedona Reviews and Rating

  • Good ride and handling
  • Stylish interior and exterior
  • Lots of available features
  • Not very fuel efficient
  • Fiddly controls for stowing second and third rows
  • Second-row seats stow into a tub and can’t be removed

New for 2017

The 2017 Kia Sedona is now available with automatic emergency braking, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration, dynamic bending lights on the SX and SXL trim, an available acoustic windshield of the SX and SXL grade, and a passenger power seat switch.

Vehicle Summary

The 2017 Kia Sedona is a minivan with seating for up to eight passengers when equipped with the available second-row bench seat. In addition to more family-oriented models, the Sedona is also available with a more premium variant.

The 2017 Sedona is powered by a 3.3-liter V-6 rated at 276 hp and 248 lb-ft of torque, paired exclusively to a six-speed automatic transmission. The EPA rates the Sedona at 18/24 mpg city/highway for the L, LX and EX trims. The most efficient Sedona is the SX trim, which is rated at 18/25 mpg. On the other side of the spectrum is the Sedona SXL, which is the least efficient at 17/22 mpg. Cargo space on all variants is 33.9 cubic feet with the third row in place, 78.4 cubic feet behind the second row, and 142 cubic feet behind the front seats.

Standard features include 17-inch alloy wheels, cloth upholstery, a four-speaker audio system, a five-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system, Bluetooth connectivity, a USB port, and a rearview camera. Options include a 360-degree view camera, navigation, an eight-inch touchscreen for Kia’s UVO3 infotainment system, an Infinity audio system, leather upholstery, additional USB ports, an LCD display in between the gauges, reclining second-row captain’s chairs with extendable footrests, heated and ventilated front seats, heated second-row seats, tri-zone climate control, HID headlights, and a multi-pane sunroof.

The NHTSA gave the 2017 Kia Sedona a five-star overall safety rating (out of a possible five stars). In IIHS testing the car received a Good score on all crash tests and a Superior rating on the front crash prevention test after it avoided a 12-mph and a 25-mph collision (Good is the highest possible score). However, the Sedona only received a Top Safety Pick rating from the IIHS because it received a Poor score in the new headlights safety test.

Available active safety features include adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, blind spot warning, and rear cross-traffic alert.

What We Think

In a 2015 Big Test that also included the Honda Odyssey, Toyota Sienna, Nissan Quest and outgoing Chrysler Town & Country, the Kia Sedona won because of its excellent blend of comfort, style, value, and great driving dynamics. Despite having great handling, the Sedona maintains a comfortable ride and even though it’s the heaviest, the Sedona still has great acceleration. However, in a 2015 First Test, we did note that the Sedona wasn’t as flexible as competitors like the Honda Odyssey with fiddly mechanisms for folding the second and third rows. Additionally, the second row only pushes up against the back of the front seats and don’t fold into a tub nor can it be removed.

Cool Fact

The available second-row captains chairs in the 2017 Sedona were inspired by first class seats used on long-haul flights.

2017 Kia Sedona Release Date, Specs and Review

While retaining Kia’s traditional pricing and style, the fresh 2017 Kia Sedona offers plenty of upscale style and features. We highly recommend it for anyone looking for value, serene cabin, sedan-like cockpit and dashboard, and a versatile and practical second-row seat designs. We should look forward to its release come June next year.

While the minivan model has endured much ridicule for years unending, the Sedona is probably the best thing that promises to shape the future of minivans. The 2017 Sedona comes with classy-looking gauges, easy to use console-mounted shift lever, and lots of extra storage space apart from the conventional copious volumes a minivan is expected to offer.

Interior wise, you get soft-to-touch materials and comfortable seats. The “Slid-and-Stow” second-row middle seats makes possible a seating capacity for eight. With a minivan like Sedona, you won’t have to worry about inadequate head-and legroom despite having three rows of seats as is often the case with large SUVs.

With 33.9 cubic feet of cargo volume available for your luggage, there is virtually nothing to complain about during log trips and vacations. Still not enough? Well, you can still free up an additional 45 cubic feet of space when the rear seats are folded into the floor.

Nevertheless, the Sedona scores poorly in terms of fuel ratings relative to its rivals. Therefore, it will be worthwhile to look around before deciding to make the purchase once it is available. The 2017 Honda Odyssey although coming with a steeper price, offers a laudable fuel economy rating than the Sedona. One of our favorites and arguably one of the best minivan to have is the 2017 Toyota Sienna, it runs neck and neck with the Odyssey but its SE trim offers one of the best features you can get with a minivan.

Lastly, you can check out the Dodge Grand Caravan for 2017. It offers an attractive pricing and value. When all is said and done, the Sedona remains the best choice for those seeking for an antidote to soul-sucking minivan-itis.

Trims Available – Kia Sedona

Once available, the Sedona for 2017 will be offered in five trims: SX-L, SX, EX, LX, and the base L.

Interior Review & 2017 Kia Sedona Exterior Colors

With the base L model, you get standard dual gloveboxes, a driver height adjustment, 17-inch alloy wheels, air-conditioning, a telescopic-and-tilt steering wheel, a split-folding third row seat, second-row Slide-n-Stow collapsible seats, cruise control, stain-resistant fabric upholstery, and manual front seats.

Electronic features include Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity, a USB port, a CD player, a four-speaker sound system, and a media player interface.

The LX trim offers Kia’s Uvo eServices emergency communications, a rearview camera, a 4.3” infotainment display, exterior power-folding mirrors, two extra speakers, voice controls, an eight-way power driver seat, roof rails, headlight LED accents, and tinted rear windows.

Opting for the EX gets you keyless ignition and entry, front heated seats, two extra USB ports, HD and satellite radio, automatic climate control, a refrigerated lower glovebox, an eight-speaker Infiniti audio system, power sliding doors, an adjustable-height electronic liftgate, 18-inch alloy wheels, HD radio, rear sunshades, and foglights.

The SX will pack driver memory settings, a 115-V power outlet, voice controls, an 8” infotainment display, an eight-way passenger power seat, four-way power driver lumbar, an upgraded gauge cluster, LED taillights, selectable drive modes, ventilated front seats, rear-cross traffic alerts, and a blind-spot monitoring system.

At the top of the trim lineup is dual power sunroofs, extendable leg rests, second-row lounge seats, upgraded leather upholstery, front and rear parking sensors, 19-inch wheels, airplane winged headrests, and a heated steering wheel.

2017 Kia Sedona Engine Specifications

All the 2017 Kia Sedona models come equipped with a 3.3L V6 engine rated at 276 hp and 248 lbs. ft. of torque under their hoods. This power is routed to the front wheels via the standard six-speed automatic transmissions system.

Installation of the optional hitch allows the Sedona to achieve a maximum towing capacity of 3,500lbs.

Eight seconds is all that you need to accelerate to 60 mph. This is an average acceleration for the class, but we hope Kia will announce an additional powerplant soon with better ratings.

The L, LX, and EX trims are estimated to offer EPA fuel consumption ratings of 18/24/20 mpg in the city/highway/combined. The SX betters the figures by 1 mpg except in the city.

Date Of Release & Price – Kia Sedona For 2017

We should look forward to its release come June next year. Granted its improved features and technologies, a price increment over the outgoing model isn’t foreseeable considering the stiff rivalry in the segment. So, a base MSRP of $26,400 is likely.

2017 Kia Sedona Review

2017 Kia Sedona

The 2017 Kia Sedona, also known as Kia Carnival is a Minivan with sporty chassis. Sedona was manufactured as it’s sibling by Hyundai known as Entourage. The first generation of the franchise began in late 1998. While the present day generation is the third generation of Sedona.

The first generation went on sale in 2002 and ended up in 2005. The overall remarks about Sedona were not impressive. And even there were a number of features that were missing in its first generation. But with time Kia eradicated such issues.

Then was the second generation, from 2006 till 2014. The franchise was now targeted for the European market instead of the US market as it does in the first generation. The driveline was increased for the second generation. The engineering was improvised which helped in reducing the weight of this minivan. It was almost 350 – 400 lbs lighter than the previous generation.

The present day generation (third generation) was introduced in 2014, with its production beginning in 2015. The previous generations of Sedona have relatively no further modeling. But the present day model has five models; Sedona L, Sedona LX, Sedona EX, Sedona SX and Sedona Limited. The model lineup is different as per the continents. Like in Australia, the modelingng is Sedona S, Sedona Si, Sedona SLi, and Sedona Platinum. The starting price of the franchise is around $26,800.

The model L of Sedona is considered as to be the basic model. And the particulars of the model even reveal that. It has a basic driveline with the basic driver integrative features.

Engine Transmission HP Torque
2.2 – 3.3 L 6 – speed automatic 276 hp 247 lb – ft
0 – 62 MPH Top Speed Body Style MPG
7.4 seconds 122 mph Minivan 17 city/ 22 highway

Hood of 2017 Kia Sedona

The drivetrain of Kia Sedona is not like the basic minivans. It has a sporty chassis and even a V6 engine in line. The market preferable chassis are both. The 2.2 L diesel engine has much to do with the errand runners. It has a nominal driveline with modest mileage that makes an EPA up to 25 mpg.

When we get to the fun drivers, they would prefer the 3.3 L V6 gasoline engine. Here Sedona is a bit more consumer of fuel, but it’s a power machine. If you prefer to run your family at speed, you’d love the V6.

When we come to the handling, which is of course a major inclusion in errand rides, then it is pretty good. The steering wheel has enough weight to steer it timely. Even the road grip and steering interval is almost perfect. Rather it is better than a number of other minivans. But still it is a heavy vehicle to drive.

But not to forget, there are a number of other minivans even available that has made the steering much more a fun for minivan drivers.

The 3.6 L V6 is a standard drivetrain for the US. The 2.2 L diesel engine is available for the European and Asian markets. The acceleration tested for both the minivans is quite higher than a number of consumer oriented minivans. Even a number of competitors of Sedona lack this fact. But it’s a minivan, not a track racer. Acceleration and speed doesn’t matter to a number of minivan consumers.

2017 Kia Sedona Exterior

Usually the minivans don’t get much of the designing. But Kia Sedona is precisely a unique among them. Although Kia has modified the looks of a number of its cars since the early 21st century. Whether you go for anything in Kia, you will get a charming exterior.

The most charming is its grille. The signature tiger grille is a nice facelift for Sedona. Along with that the signature LED lamps and the 19” wheels add more fuel in the charm of Sedona.

Though the drag coefficient and air friction is not much bothering for minivans. But Kia has targeted a safe driving exterior. Sedona is lower than a number of minivans in market.

Interior of 2017 Kia Sedona

Practically you can fit in 8 passengers in Sedona. As compared to its previous generations, the present day Sedona is pretty much comfortable. The tests revealed that Sedona is comfortable to ride when going for a long journey.

The dashboard articles are not much eye catchy. But when we go to the steering panel, seats and hinges, you’d get quality products. These are mainly included in luxury vehicles. But you are getting them in a minivan.

Even the rear seats of Sedona are higher in quality than the expectations of a number of consumers. They are pretty luxurious for a minivan. In the Sedona Limited the second row seats are movable which allow more space for cargo. This has been named as Lounge panel.

Some articles are pretty much different from rest of the minivans. And even a bit weird as well. The console between the front and back row is normally movable. But in case of Sedona it is fixed, which allows no permission to move between the seats or cleaning.

The cargo space in Sedona is bit lacking. We have here 140 cubic feet of space which is almost 10 cubic feet lesser than its competitor. But the passenger spacing is higher than other minivans. But there are even bigger vans as well in the rage. Sedona offers 158 cubic feet for passengers.

Features of 2017 Kia Sedona

The base model has the basic features. It has the standard Radio, keyless ignition, Bluetooth and USB jack. There is a 7” infotainment system available in LX and EX. The system in LX is optional. While the 8” infotainment system is available in rest of the models with the Infinity Audio System. The Navigational system of Kia is pretty responsive. Even the whole infotainment system is quite prompt.

The Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and SiriusXM is optional in some models. While these are available in higher models.

2017 Kia Sedona Safety

Kia Sedona has been recommended as one of the safest cars. The minivan has earned 5 stars in terms of safety and security. And the best thing about Sedona is that, Kia has not compromised on safety. They have made all the safety and security features confirmed on every model, besides Vehicle Stability Management (VSM). It is only available in only higher models.

Toyota Sienna

The challenging Sedona gets the competition from Toyota Sienna. It even comes with almost similar performance schedules. And the performance tests showed that Sienna is a bit faster than Sedona. Though we have a good competitor in line.

Kia Sedona is really a fun to drive car. The performance specifications, exterior and interior makes it a fun to drive car. On top of that the price tag is quite economical. In a way, it is really a good minivan to run your errands.
